Two new laws dealing with the use of wireless (cell) telephones while driving in Ohio go into effect July 1, 2008. Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions concerning these new laws.
Q: When do the new wireless telephone laws take effect?
A: The new laws take effect July 1, 2008.
Q: What is the difference between the two laws?
A: The first prohibits all drivers from using a handheld wireless telephone while operating a motor vehicle, (Vehicle Code (VC) ‘23123). Motorists 18 and over may use a “hands-free device.” Drivers under the age of 18 may NOT use a wireless telephone or hands-free device while operating a motor vehicle (VC ‘23124).
Q: What if I need to use my telephone during an emergency, and I do not have a “hands-free” device?
A: The law allows a driver to use a wireless telephone to make emergency calls to a law enforcement agency, a medical provider, the fire department, or other emergency services agency.

There are a lot of Indians fans who don’t like the rumors that the Indians will trade C.C. Sabathia. Well, it’s a done deal now that the Tribe seems to be falling out of pennant contention. The question now is not if but when or where will he go.
The NBA regular season started way back in September of 2007. The pre-season started before that and the NBA finals ended on June 17th followed by two weeks of news about the NBA draft. We have “The Dream Team” going to China to play in the Olympics which will take up most of the month of August. The 2008-09 preseason will start shortly after that.
I was lucky enough to be in attendance at what can only be described as “Omar’s Homecoming Game” at the Jake-er-Progressive Field last night. Between the singing of The National Anthem and the actual start of the game they showed highlights of Omar Vizquel’s career during his time in Cleveland. All the great plays he made; the bare-hand grabs; the “jump-throws” and the diving catches. The fans went wild. Omar stood on the top step of the Giant’s dugout and watched the highlights himself and when they finished, he came out on the field and acknowledged the crowd. It was a good 5 minute long standing ovation. You could tell he was touched by it all.

With all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person, which almost went unnoticed last week. Larry LaPrise, the man that wrote “The Hokey-Pokey” died peacefully at the age of 93.
